last year's christmas was a drama free event. a rare treat indeed. everyone got along in a reasonable manner. the common theme seemed to be, "i best not start anything". hopefully, this year will be the same. i once again thank all of you that did think of me with a gift. if you watch any tv lately, you have noticed that apparently men are not worth a damn if they do not buy their women jewelry and/or a car for christmas. virtually every other commercial is forcing this notion on us. it's not just men that are being slighted by this. woman are being portrayed as having an inability to be happy without this stuff. kids are not being left out. they will not be happy unless they get that latest cool cell phone, video console, or mp3 player. these things will basically impinge on what little "family time" there is left in our hurried lives. yet parents are doomed failures if they don't pony up the goods. wouldn't it be great if we could forgo all the endless cash bloodletting and just spend time with the people that mean the most to us throughout the year? i know i pounded on this last year, but i feel it needs further pounding. do 'things' really make you happy? they are just things. things with no feeling, things with no love. happiness is not bought or given. it is created within. may this new year bring you all the happiness you deserve. seriously, i would rather not receive any gifts from you. while i appreciate the time and money spent securing said gift, a small donation of time spent with you every now and then means much more to me. please do keep that in mind. i hope you all have a great christmas and a happy new year... remember, it's not what you get, but who it is that gave it to you. yours redundantly, mike "mr. christmas" straub |
